Wave Skiing – Redux

They did it! Faithful readers of this blog will remember my post a while back about the potential for serious fun to be had, on skis in the surf. Well Mike Douglas (Pro Skier) and Dave Kalama (Pro big wave surfer) figured out how to make it work and they headed off to Maui and made it happen. Check out this cool little video of them figuring it out, giving it a go in small surf and getting barreled on hug waves – on skis! Awesome!

Young Love

The other day I found a note when I was in the library. I saw it on the ground and decided to pick it up and see what it was all about. It was obvious from the writing on the front that it was the work of a child. The tightly folded piece of paper had the name, ‘Joel’ written on the front. I unfolded the origami of it and found the words, ‘I Love you – Maria. You So hot’ who says romance is dead.

Sometimes the most beautiful poetry comes from the innocence of a child. Have a great weekend and give the one you love a good squeeze – they deserve it and so do you.

Strangest photo ever seen at Nana’s house

Recently I was staying with a friend up in Auckland and we ended up crashing at her grandmother’s house (long story). Lovely lady – but a rather interesting decorating sense. Prominently displayed in the lounge room was this vintage photo of an atomic bomb blast. I enquired why she might have this photo up on the wall and she replied, “well, I just like it.” Fair enough. Drinking milky tea with a nuclear blast beside you, nice way to spend a Sunday...

Sand People

This video has been kicking around for a while and I finally got around to posting it on YouTube so that others could have a look at it. This was shot almost a year ago when I was cycling in Egypt and Sudan. When I came back from that trip I had all sorts of footage that got used for a few different projects – some was used by Lonely Planet to create a few cool vids (Click HERE to see the LP video) and some was used by myself in slide shows and to show friends what the trip was all about. In the end there was some leftover stuff that didn’t get used anywhere and I wanted to make use of it. I came up with the idea of a sort of DVD extra – the cutting room floor as it were. What was left had a fun and kinetic feel to it, so that is how I decided to edit it together. Hope you enjoy, thanks for watching!

Fisheye

this image shot by Sophie Kennedy

After much delay and anticipation (at least on my part) here are some images from my first roll of my new fisheye camera. Delayed gratification, such a forgotten enterprise in the photographic world. Back in the film days, waiting around for a couple of days to see images was the way it went – while now I found myself looking to the back of my fisheye camera over and over again, expecting to see a digital image. Not so. So old school I think I’m in love...
